So yesterday was the first day of college. After going through what the course was going to cover and discussing photos from various photography books as a source of inspiration, we got our first practical assignment. The task was to think about the frame, and also consider subject placement, the rule of thirds, balance, depth, vantage point and line. We then walked around the college to find something interesting to shoot. Nearly at the end of the session I found an ornament by some stairs that I liked the shape of, so I sat there for a while until I got a shot I was pleased with. We wouldn’t get to edit any of the images at college but I did this later at home. We then showed the class our final results on the screens in the computer room.
At the end of the day we were assigned our first project, but I’ll tell you more about that when I have something to show for it. It’s due the 3rd of October so that’s about two weeks from now. I’ve got some ideas so far but feel that I need to brainstorm a bit more before I decide about the theme.
On my way home I was looking for some inspiration for the upcoming project so I ended up with a couple of hundred pictures. There’s a kind of plant growing everywhere around here but I don’t know the name of it, so I just call them Fox tails (you’ll know what I mean when you see them in the gallery below). I was playing around a bit with the photos when I got home. For instance, I added an old looking texture to the clock I saw on a church, and I think the effect works quite well! There’s a beautiful mosaic window at my college and I decided to desaturate the image and leave the colours in the glass, to make them stand out more.
